The Avro Vulcan XL426 team are holding an open day at their Southend Airport base on (Sunday) 21st August. Gates open at 10.00 and last admission will be at 16.00.
Entry to see the Cold War icon is £4 for adults and senior citizens, with under-16s gaining entry free for the ground visit. For those who wish to visit the cockpit, subject to availability, an additional cost of just £3.50 per person, regardless of age, ensures a unique view with an experienced guide.
The team’s Richard Clarkson told Aviation News: “With our talented volunteers we are able to keep the Vulcan in excellent condition thanks to our charity open days and we hope as many people as possible come along on Sunday 21st August – you will have a great time. If you can’t come along that day, why not put a date in your diary for the final Vulcan open day of the year which will be on Sunday 25th September when the aircraft will be open to visitors for the last time this season.” For more details see: www.avrovulcan.com
Take the road past the airport terminal and you will find the Vulcan signposted with parking nearby. The aircraft is only two minutes’ walk from the London Southend Airport rail station too – just turn right as you exit and you will see the Vulcan ahead of you!
